5 Months and LOTS of Firsts

Where does 5 months go? Our little girl is growing like crazy and starting to do so many things. Jedd and I are having so much fun seeing Libby discover new things, although she is getting big so fast we wish we could slow time down. Well since people just want to see pictures I'll get on with it, there are a lot so be prepared!

Libby has loved her bumbo. This particular morning she was just smiling like crazy. She loves being up where she can see me and of course she is loving sitting up in things and not always laying down.

This is Libby sitting in her high chair for the first time. She loves it! She has now learned to push off of her elbows to get toys she can't reach on her tray. Also if she can't see me while she is sitting in her high chair she'll lean forward so she can. Such a funny girl.

The last little while Libby has found her toes and 95% of the time has them up while she is laying down. She loves to grab them, especially when wearing her pajamas that have things on her feet like pink bugs or something else fun.

Libby has recently loved watching Mickey Mouse. When I'm doing something I'll lay her on my bed and have her watch it. Her attention span is only a few minutes, but it helps me to get one or two things done. This was her one morning mesmerized by Minnie.

And this was the first picture of Libs trying to eat her feet. Pretty flexible, this little one is.

This isn't a first, but just a real funny picture of her hair and how long it is getting.

A week before Libby was 5 months old, we started feeding her cereal, THINKING it would help her sleep through the night. Boy were we wrong. The first 5 days of feeding were AWFUL. She would pretty much scream every time I put the cereal in her mouth. As you can tell, most of it ended up on her face and bib. Here's a picture to prove it:

I even got creative on how to feed her the cereal. This still didn't work. So I decided to try the cereal with fruit already mixed with it and now she LOVES it and slurps it down as fast as I feed it to her. She eats cereal twice a day and loves it. But it doesn't help her sleep any better at night. She still wakes up 2-3 times at least during the night. I hope this doesn't mean she has a sweet tooth already.

Libby LOVES basketball so her first March Maddness was a hit. She sad in her little chair in front of the tv like this for over 30 minutes. She was watching and playing with her feet, it was great! I am going to miss all the basketball games on tv because that seems to be the only way lately I can clip her fingernails. She loves watching basketball.

My mom bought Libby these little hair clips and so I put them in her hair for the first time the other day. IT was quite the chore to get her to sit still long enough to put it in, but I thought it looked so cute. It makes her look so big, but sure cute. And of course this is the face you see on Libby quite a lot....sucking on her tongue.

Libby baths at night now instead of the morning. She loves her bath. She is so cute all wrapped up in her kitty towel, I just had to snag a picture.

This was Libby's FIRST cubs game. At our house, Cubs games are quite the thing so of course Jedd had to watch it with Libby. Here he is explaining the game to her, it was so cute for her to watch and listen to her daddy like she knew what was going on.

This was Libby for the first time on her daddy's shoulders. She is still too small to see over his head, but it sure made me laugh. She loves it up there and sits so still. Not a normal thing for our Libs, but sure cute!

Saturday night we put Libby's mega saucer together and she LOVES it. I have to put a blanket around her a little bit to help her hold herself up but she loves sitting it in and playing with all the toys.

This was the next morning....still loving it!

Sunday's picture before church. This was Libby's first time wearing her jean jumper that I bought when I was pregnant. She is finally big enough to wear it and I think it is about the cutest thing ever! She looked so cute in it I of course had to take pictures. Here's her shy-guy pose which she does quite frequently. And there are just a few more pictures we snagged that morning.

Right before church there was a basketball game on and Libby and daddy were sure into it. They both have the same look on their face, it's hilarious. They look so much alike, it is crazy.

Well this 5 month milestone sure has been eventful. We are having so much fun and just love our Libs so much!

Bows

If any of you know my mother, she is a VERY TALENTED woman. She is able to see something and can figure out how to make it herself for much much less than what people are selling things for. She is an excellent sower and has made her grand-daughters many cute and fun things. This last Christmas she made all of the girls matching ruffle skirts and they are truly to die for! I would like to say that I have gotten this craft talent from my mom, but reality is, I'm just kind of lazy. But I do know how to sow, tie a quilt, paint and I know how to do a few other things that she has taught me over the years. I owe all my not-so-amazing talent to my amazing mother.

With having a baby girl, my creativity is always sparked by something that I see on other babies or on TV (usually from watching Good Things Utah). While attending a birthday party for my grandma, I ran into a cousin of mine that has such an adorable little girl. She was wearing a cute flower bow in her hair. I had seen these before but never wanted to pay the price to have one. So I asked her about it and she told me she made it. I was completely shocked and amazed, so after getting instructions on how to make these adorable flowers, my creativity ran just a little bit and I put some things together. Thanks, Anne, for sparking my creativity and giving me the confidence I needed to make these adorable things for my princess to wear.

Without further ado, here are just a few bows I have put together. It has taken me a while to compile everything. Let me tell you, finding these stretchy lace and stretch bands has not been easy. JoAnn's doesn't have a great selection (shocking right?) but I found everything else at JoAnn's including the fabric and felt and jewels. The stretch lace and stretch bands I found at Wal Mart. The first two pictures are the flowers I was telling you about that my cousin showed me.

Then after going to a few websites that my cousin directed me to, I found these flowers and thought "now I can do that!" so here these two are, made out of felt. They definitely look homemade but I think I did a pretty good job.

The ones I found on the internet looked much more professional and way more cute, but hey, as a first timer, I think they will work great. And at about 1/4 the price, I think I'll take it!

I'll take a Root Canal Please...

...and maybe an ulcer to go along with it.

the following post is probably not the most entertaining and maybe a little graphic to some of you.... My apologies in advance.

If you read my last post you know that my little Libby had a horrible ear infection which started a few weeks ago. Well her medicine is done and she is feeling much better, still not sleeping during the night, but she's back to herself these days. While dealing with a sick baby, I've been dealing with my own problems. About the middle of January I started having a toothache and I didn't know what it was so I waited and waited and waited to see if it would go away. (If you know me, I HATE HATE HATE the dentist so I was praying this little problem would just fix itself and go away. HA, like that EVER happens!) This pain started in my tooth and then continued all the way down my whole right side of my mouth and then started to affect my jaw.

(ha, this is not me, but it made me laugh so I put it on here!)

So after one excruciating weekend full of pure pain, I called and went in for an emergency root canal. Sadly my normal dentist was out due to knee surgery so I had to go to an endodontist...who by the way was AMAZING! My root canal was so bad, not only due to my curviest roots the endodonist had ever seen, but also due to how bad it was, I went in one day and had to go back in the next week to finish it all up. If you've had a root canal before, you understand the pain. And not only was the root canal horrible, it is on the top right side, furthest tooth back. So this is what I felt like:

The endodontist office would not put in a permanent filling for my root canal due to my insurance so I had to wait for my normal dentist to get back into the office to get a permanent filling done which finally done last week. Mind you we are now about 7 weeks from when this all started in January. Well after a few days after the filling was put in and my tooth was measured for a crown, I started feeling a lot of pain again and thought oh no here we go again. I just knew I had an infection. So after another horrible weekend of pain, I finally went into the dentist for an emergency appointment yesterday and he found no infection. BUT if you can guess, my problem stemmed from an ulcer that is close to 2 inches long on the back side of my mouth up by my gums. The best way I can describe is that it feels like a 2 inch canker sore. This has caused so much pain, my gums hurt all on the top right side of my mouth, and continues all the way down my right cheek and then under my chin. The dentist gave me some numbing medication to help with the pain, but really the only thing he could tell me was to wait for it to heal and that I would be in a lot of pain for another week or so. And on top of this, my root canal is not completely finished because I go in on the 21st to get my permanent crown attached.

All in all, from start to finish this process is going to take about 10 weeks to be finished. Along with 5 dentist appointments and over $1000 worth of dental bills.

The doctor said that he has only seen ulcers appear this bad in about 1 out of every 50 root canals he does. Comforting, right? Well he tried to comfort me by saying that due to my immune system being down from having Libby a few months ago and all the stress that has been put on my tooth and gums the past 2 months, there was nothing I could have done to prevent it from happening. He did say that he doesn't expect me to get this ever again. HE BETTER BE RIGHT!
